TALISA SUTTON - ART DIRECTOR AND CREATIVE

Please give us a brief introduction of yourself Talisa
I'm an Art Director based in Sydney, Australia. My background is in editorial design and graphics for the fashion & lifestyle industries, and I run my own design practice, Badlands Studio.
Can you tell us more about your journey with Badlands? Badlands started first as a blog - a passion project of mine while I was studying graphic design at TAFE. In the beginning, the content was a collection of references I was inspired by (art, design, architecture & film), but it also slowly became a space where I would share more about my personal style and outfits/interiors. I kept it going through my studies, and whilst I was nearing the end of my BFA, I got a job offer at a magazine.I kept the blog running on the side across three years of full-time work, but it eventually reached a point where I was lucky to be able to shift my focus to freelancing and managing my platform full-time. Around this time, I noticed a gap for a niche, boutique graphics studio specialising in branding, design & content for the fashion, beauty & lifestyle spaces. This was where Badlands Studio officially started, and now, 8 years, I'm proud to still be running and growing the studio and our offerings.
How would you describe your personal style and key wardrobe essentials?
A great coat, a pair of straight leg, blue denim with a mid-high raise waist, black boots or white sneakers, a simple cashmere crew neck and the perfect white t-shirt.These pieces are so easy to wear on rotation, and never date. I love timeless classics with a focus on quality and fit.Architecture inspiration right now?
I was recently in Singapore, and I was so inspired by the unique architecture  - the art deco influences and their abundant use of greenery / living gardens incorporated into buildings. I also loved reading the post about the Barbie Dream House on Architectural Digest - Mid Century Modern is my favourite period of architecture, and Palm Springs is one of my favourite places. So needless to say, I'll be seeing the film!
Favourite sound currently?
I've been loving Feng Suave lately. There is also nothing like the sound of the ocean, I love going for walks by the sea, particularly in winter. How do you plan to fulfill your creative desires for the rest of 2023?My creative focus this year is to continue working with our amazing Studio clients on their brands, growing our own business and expanding the network of creatives we work with on exciting new projects. I would also love to book a trip to one of my favourite cities for some fresh inspiration - but that might be 2024!
